After I graduated with a degree in film studies from Yale University in 2010 into what seemed the worst possible job market, it took me a little time to figure out what I wanted to do. I spent some time on film sets in New York, chasing down actors and directors, applying makeup when a spare hand was necessary, talking costumers and editors down off ledges, and at one point, even worked as a script doctor in a hot Gowanus office without windows.
In 2013, I returned to my home state of California to take a job on the production team at the open access academic life science publisher, the Public Library of Science, where I was eventually promoted to production editor of the four community journals: Computational Biology, Genetics, Neglected Tropical Diseases, and Pathogens. After eventually realizing I was spending a lot of time wrangling the many content management systems PLOS used, and doing improvement projects on the look and feel of the journals, I realized it was time for a career change.
I returned to school in 2016, pursuing my Masters in Fine Arts at Parsons' Design and Technology program, where I spent a lot of time working on projects related to social awareness, feminism, and education.
